Qatar has achieved an outstanding status in recent years by hosting and organizing many prestigious international sporting and other events and functions, as well as reaching its sporting goals in the international and Asian spheres.

The AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011 tm (from 7 th to 29 th of January) attracted large numbers of overseas football fans and leisure tourists.

The State of Qatar was nominated host of the 2022 World Cup . The decision was announced in Zurich by Joseph Blatter, the president of football's world governing body FIFA, following a secret ballot by 22 members of its executive committee. Qatar becomes the first Arab country, the first from the Middle East and Gulf region to host football's biggest tournament.

The General Authority for Youth and Sports supervises the formulation of the general youth policy in the state, establishes youth establishments including special technical and voluntary work centers for the Qatari youths and represents the State of Qatar at youth functions abroad.

Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) was established in 1979 to oversee the sports events and participation of national teams in international, regional and local competition, in accordance with the Olympic Charter. Currently presided over by the Heir Apparent, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the QOC has established Sports Federations to oversee individual sports. There are scores of youths' establishments and facilities of all categories: sporting, cultural and scientific, which the state is supporting with all human and material resources so that they can function properly and reach their goals.
